A renal ultrasound uses sound waves to create detailed images of your kidneys and bladder. Our portable ultrasound technology allows us to perform this test at your location for added convenience. This non-invasive test can detect kidney stones, cysts, tumors, blockages, and other abnormalities. It is also used to monitor chronic kidney conditions and evaluate kidney size and structure.
Preparation Guide
Before Your Visit
- You may need a full bladder for the test
- Drink 32 ounces of water 1 hour before your appointment
- Do not empty your bladder before the test
- No fasting is typically required
During Your Visit
- You will lie on your back and sides on an examination table
- Warm gel will be applied to your abdomen and back
- A transducer will be moved over your kidney areas
- You may be asked to hold your breath briefly
After Your Visit
- You can resume all normal activities immediately
- No recovery time is needed
- Results are typically available within 24-48 hours
